Default 'bout a million questions

Hi folks. I have a '84 US GTi which I have had for about 8 yrs. Head blew up about 4 yrs. ago, been parked ever since. Anyway, car's been sitting a long time, and I have a lot on my plate already.

-- I want to know what would be a good junkyard motor to slap in there hurry-up-quick. Something normally aspirated, 2.0 maybe.

--Also, I heard there was a big valve 8-valve head, but I don't know the code or what it came in.

--Curious about Porsche 924 turbo motor, but with sidedraft Webers. (crossflow head) Would it fit? There used to be one in the local boneyard... Would the slick lower a-arms fit?

--Tranny. Will the later cable linkage types (A2, A3, etc.) bolt in?

--what's it worth? Florida car, not rusty or wrecked. Pics soon.
