Default Can you drop a 1.6 diesel engine into a gas Caddy?

Basically, the subject is the question. I have no idea if they made gas Caddies, or if the motor mounts or transmission mounts are different. Has anyone done this before? I've got an extra 1.6 D engine that came with my old Rabbit. I would like to rebuild it and find a suitable "parts car" to drop it into. Ideally, this would be a Caddy, but I'd have better luck finding one if I knew I could use both diesel or gas models as the base.

Can you just leave the old tranny in place and drop the diesel block in? Thanks for any help!
