Same Exact Problem!
OK. I am having the EXACT same symptoms and problems with my 1989 Fox. They just appeared out of the blue. I did some troubleshooting and thought it was the starter that was drawing too much power. When I removed it there was a TON of play in the gear mechanism, so I replaced it.
$100 bucks gone- problem NOT resolved.
One other thing I have noticed, if I am in the car and I try to start it, when I get out, I get a shock like no one's business when I touch the door to close it.
Any suggestions?? How did you fix your fox??
