Default New to site, question on 73 bug im building

hey, im new on this forum, figuerd i'd join to give/gain info on air cooled vw's., i bought my first car "73 super beetle" a few years ago, started doing body work on it, rewired from the voltage regulator back, then bought my 90mustang. now im done with the stang, and its back to the bug. i raped 2 other super beeltes to get this one done, i have everything i need to put it back together, just a few questions on some things im not sure on. main things are, the fan housing, i have a scat doghouse style one with no heater ducts, and was recently handed another (which i thought was a transaxle cooling tin" but is really another typle of fan shroud. this one, i take it leaves the fan open. as for the motor im building, its a 1600 dual port stroker, the top end needs to be rebuilt, i figuer i'd do a valve job on it, buy new pistons and cylinders, i belive the cylender bore to be 90.5 or 92mm, im not sure to be exact. all the same i know cooling is key to the air cooled motors, so would a inclosed fan housing be more up my alley, or the open fan?
now as for the heat exchanger's. i dont plan on using them at all, i'll find other means of heat "im building a rat rod bug" should i make covers for where the exhaust would enter them to flow into the car? just leave them open, or make someting to have them meet with the rest of the exhaust?

last question, what is a ideal compression ratio on a 1600cc stroker? , should i mill my heads at all (they have never been cut)?

any ideas/ information on my questions would be greatly appreicated, the is a learning experince for me (im only 19) and i want to make sure i do this right, thanks, justin
