Thanks for the offer, but I'm finding all of the parts I'm needing from a guy parting out his 84 Scirocco on VWvortex's forums...I'm in Maud, OK. I can get parts from OKC, but that's 60 miles away, and they are PROUD of their parts. 120.00 for a junk cluster w/no guarantee that it works, w/no return privileges.
I got this 84 for a steal. 650.00, engine very good, body straight, needs a new paint job sometime, good ol' silver, never looks good old. In fact, I call this car my poor man's Delorean. In silver, it makes for a passable lookalike.
Next project is to replace the shift bushings to fix the issue of sloppy shifting, and after that is to save my pennies to do a clutch replacement. It needs one now, but, if I take it easy, I should be able to squeeze another 2500 miles on this one before it becomes a must do job. Only slips now when I try to accelerate hard, and in third gear for some reason, more than any other.
I can put off the turn signal switch for a while. Last owner rigged it to work where the hazard switch was. push switch left, left signal, push to right, right signal comes on. Does not self cancel, only downside to that okie engineering job. Also, can't go to high beams, as the switch appears to be jammed for that.
Considering that I see a lot of Sciroccos being sold for 700+ in non-running condition, I'm ok with this deal for now. That Mercedes was one break-down away from being parked for good. Sold it, and bought this with the proceeds with a little left over to register it, and to do a little work.
