i always clean my engine with a pressure hose, its not bad. you just have to stay away from ignition parts or major electric items.

as for the fix it is most likely ignition related like your ignition coil or ignition wires. those dont like water on them. if you get water in between your ignition wires and spark plug tips it will short and not get full current.

Get it fixed cause sitting there cranking your starter is not good for it and will cause it to fail pre maturely.
