Hello,

I've posted this message in the "New members introductions" forum, but since it kind of got ignored (and it probably wasn't its place there either) I'll post it here too.

I'm hopefully a few steps away from becoming a proud owner of a new Golf MK6. Not only that, but it's gonna be my first car too (actually it'll be both mine and my girlfriend's).

Now there are still a few things I am unsure about and I'd like to hear some opinions about one of them. Thing is we're both noob drivers and I'd rather play safe and get some sort of parking assistance. So I have to decide if I get optical parking sensors or the reversing camera (the camera would also force me to also get the cooler CD-player RCD510 so I kinda like the idea). None is also an option.

So which one should it be?

Thanks!

I just purchased a 2000 jetta GLS a couple weeks ago, love the car but one little problem. The speedometer and tach gauge needles don't light up. I removed and disassembled the cluster and found what my guess are LED's. I did not attempt to remove them for fear of damaging anything. Does anyone know where I can get replacements and how I go about replacing them?

Anyone have any clue on what could have burnt that won't allow it to start now. I put a new battery in, it turns over fine but won't fire. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

My vehicle is a VW autosleeper camper with just 8400 miles but 4 years old, obviously in pristine condition.
Thanks for the forum I should like to tell you about my experience with VW and it is painful. My camper goes to the VW agent for service and anything else so when it lost all power I went to them for help. They diagnosed a blown turbo and advised me to contact VW which I did, VW told me that my garage was not qualified to diagnose problems with a van and I had to take it, in limp home mode 15 miles to the VW commercial garage where it was diagnosed as a blown turbo. VW offered to pay 50% of the bill, but i first had to take it home, 15 miles, then return to the garage, another 15 miles all in limp home mode. After the work was completed VW actually paid 44% of the total cost. Unfortunately they don't tell you about problems like this in their advertisements so be warned.

hey everyone,

i have just promised a girl i am keen on that i would take out her existing radio from her 1998 polo, and replace it with a new cd player. however, i can not find a decent wiring diagram online, so if someone could post one up for me i might actually have a shot with her, instead of looking like a complete muppet.
also what is the best method to dismantle the dash etc to follow wires to speakers and retro fit rear speakers.

Whatever happened to the Phaeton?

Volkswagen Phaeton
Introduced in 2002, the full sized Volkswagen Phaeton was sold in the U.S. for the 2004 and 2005 model years. When time came to introduce the 2006 models, the Phaeton was not included in VW’s line up. Two years of abysmal sales spelled the end of the Phaeton at least on American and Canadian highways. What happened to the Phaeton? Will a full sized VW ever grace its North American line up again? Read on and we’ll explore exactly what doomed the North American Phaeton.

There are many reasons why the Volkswagen Phaeton was doomed even before it hit the American market:

Whoever heard of a luxury VW? In a country where Mercedes, BMW, and Audi represent German luxury, the thought of including VW in that sentence seemed all too foreign to most drivers. Ever since the Beetle, the Squareback, and the Bus held sway in the U.S., consumers have been treated to one inexpensive VW after another. Somehow, adding a luxury model to the Volkswagen mix seemed a bit of a stretch.

Too expensive. With a base sticker price of $66,000 the Phaeton was priced tens of thousands of dollars above the price of the Passat, the nearest vehicle in the VW line up to the Phaeton. And the volkswagen oem parts (http://www.vw-auto-parts-wholesale.com/) are out of reach.

Disappointing quality: One of the biggest disappointments with the VW Phaeton were its service issues. Quite frankly, the car was seen in the shop more than any car in its class. Volkswagen has struggled with electronic problems and oil issues with several models over the years and the Phaeton has been no exception. With the large number of electronic gizmos found in each model, concern about the Phaeton’s long term dependability were noised abroad before the car even reached America’s shores. Thus, the VW Phaeton already had a “problem plagued” label affixed to it, although that label is partly undeserved.
