coil pack recall

i got my coil pack recall today for my GTI. i was surprised cause i thought being a 2005 i would not be eligible. but i am so went to the dealership today to see if some parts came in and thats a big no. i showed them the recall about the coil packs and asked how i go about making an appointment to get them replaced. the guy told me that the recall is not for my car yet being its a 2005. they are starting at 1999.5 and working their way up. he told me i will be getting a second letter in the mail when i am eligible for the recall to be completed. BS i want the dang things replaced now. i asked if i could buy them, replace them myself, and then mail in the recipts to be reimbursed, he hits me with they do not have the revised ones in stock yet. BS. anyone get a similiar story?

So I'm driving home from work, stopped at a light, and my rpms start dropping a little bit, not too much, the light turns green and all sudden my check engine light starts flashing, and my car has absolutley no go, it accelerated ever so slowly and if I tried to give it more gas it wouldnt want to go it would sound like it wanted to stall.

I pulled over, shut her down and popped the hood..nothing seemed wrong, but it was pitch black outside.. but since I was only 6 blocks from home I figured I'd take a chance and drive the rest of the way home, the check engine light flashed all the way home and the car still had barely anything for power, when I got home I popped the hood and it smelt like...burnt something?..

Any ideas? please help.. I'm getting frustrated with this car..
thanks..

Its a 2004 GTI 1.8t, only 70,000 kms. thanks.

I have a noise at slow speed turns AND sitting still *while i turn the steering wheel.*

Noises come from the front right wheel of the car area and gives a "clunk" then followed by clicking as i turn the steering wheel.

it is not clicking that follows the turning of the axle, but instead only clicks IF i continue to turn the steering wheel.

I am thinking that it is the upper strut bearing on that side, but i am hearing about possibly a outer CV issue.

i woudl think that would have a clicking that follows the rotation of the axle itself, but maybe i am wrong. any thoughts on this?

too many days of rain in a row for me to actually look at it so i figured i would post up a whatcha think thread.

Ok i got a thermostat problem, when these break do they stay open or closed? my temp gauge is fine it runs at 190. Im getting it fixed soon, im thinking that could be the problem with my rough idle. Will the thermostat stop the cars needle from rising?

2001 Jetta, little diagnostics help needed.

I am trying to fix my wife's 2001 Jetta, AZG engine, 80,000 miles. I have always been a do it your self kind of guy and recently changed out brakes, sway bar links, spark plugs, wires and a few other odds and ends, but I am running into a problem. Check engine light has been on for some time.

I recently replaced the ignition coil. I had brought it to a shop to have the codes read and they could duplicate the VERY bad misfiring when there was moisture in the air with a spray bottle. Instead of paying the $485 they wanted to charge I decided to do it myself. I purchased the coil from Autohausaz. It was about $100 less than the dealership.

Image: http://www.autohausaz.com/secure/PartImages/06A905097.jpg

Glad I did, because the original one had huge cracks in it, which would explain the major problems with moisture. At the same time I cleaned the mass air flow sensor.

Image: http://www.autohausaz.com/secure/PartImages/0986280216.jpg

Now the engine will not down shift (automatic). Highway speeds (65 mph) brings the RPM up over 5500. I put back in the old coil to see if that was it, but it did not change a thing. I am thinking the mass air flow sensor is completely shot or I ruined it cleaning it (used mass air flow cleaner). I am about at my wits end and will probably bite the bullet and bring it to the dealership, pay the money and get it fixed for good.

What would cause the engine to not down shift?

Hi all,

I am coming from the world of Jeepforum and lifted rigs so I hope this is similar to NAXJA and Jeepforum. I hope this is in the correct forum area, over at JF we have certain sections for technical vs. non-technical threads but i didn't see that here.

Long story short, my priorities have changed and I am more of a daily commuter now and don't have time/money to put into my Jeep. I am currently looking at a 2001 Jetta TDI that looks pretty decent but knowing how valuable forums can be, I thought I'd seek you all out. If there are other VW forums out there, please let me know.

Here is the vehicle I'm looking at:

2001 Used Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI at Cosmo Motors in Granite Falls, NC, IID 4330489 (http://cosmo-motors.ebizautos.com/detail-2001-volkswagen-jetta-gls_tdi-4330489.html)

It looks pretty decent, but I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers on what to look for, signs of abuse, things that typically go bad, etc. I know people have had issues with the glow plugs, glow plug harness, and the fuel filter giving them fits, but let me know if there is anything else I need to be aware of.

Thanks again,
