Brake booster test/compatablility?

Hey guys,

pretty sure I need a new booster for my 85 scirocco.

It holds vacuum, check valve works, vac pump works, but brakes are pretty much two foot flintstone style.

Every once in a while, I get a hint of brake assist, but only for a second, so I'm mostly sure that there's a tear in the diaphragm, that maybe only presents itself when the pedal moves.

Any other tests I can do to it to make sure before I take it out?

and lastly, is the booster particular to the scirocco, or will ones from other models fit?

  cheers,
    ryan
