I'm new to VWs in specific and relatively unfamiliar with FWD mechanicals in general. Bought an '00 Beetle GLS (2.0L/auto) a few weeks ago knowing that it needed suspension work (broken spring) and brakes. Got around to putting the front end up on stands this week and was surprised to find that with the tranny in park and both wheels off the ground, the wheels were able to rotate. Is this normal? I'm used to old-school RWD vehicles where the tranny in park means the drive wheels aren't going anywhere (as long as the driveshaft is connected). Just looking for confirmation this is expected behavior before I sink any more money into the car. FWIW, aside from the suspension clunk, the car ran and drove normally when I brought it home.
Thanks in advance,
Brent
