1992 vw golf - no start
I tried another forum (sorry) and didn't get any responses to my problem. I'll try here (Thanks in advance)
My 17 year old son has a 92 golf w/1.8 L 8V that would not start on ocassion. now not at all.The fuel pump will only run now if we jump the relay, there is power going to the relay but it is not getting grounded which we believe happens through the computor? we also have no spark, we replaced the dist. with a rebuilt from the parts store because it had a broken cap and there was a lot of corrosion inside. When you cycle the key we have spark that jumps from the coil wire that goes to the distributor, but when cranking there is no spark at the plugs. also the plug for the hall sensors outer two wires has only about 1 volt between them, we also checked voltage between pins 2&4 on the ignition mod. and have 12 volts there. from what I found locally an ignition mod is 150.00+ and a rebuilt comp. 400.00+ - really don't want to be a parts changer if I don't have to. does the ignition mod have anything to do with grounding the fuel pump. Thanks again.
