Question '78 Super Beetle Turned Off While Driving

Yesterday evening I was driving at about 40 mph when my 1978 Super Beetle suddenly turned off. I pulled off the road and could not get it to start up again. All lights, radio, and electrical devices seemed to be working fine but the engine would not start up.

On a whim I decided to hook the battery up to my buddies car and it turned over immediately like nothing had happened and drove great the rest of the day.

The car is in perfect working order other than this incident, and in my 13 years of owning the car I have never had this problem.

The fact that as soon as we hooked the battery up it came back to life makes me think it is possibly the battery or the battery cables (possibly loose?). Any ideas of why this would happen while I was driving?

Thanks!

Could be a coincidence this happened but I would clean your battery cable and ck them carefully also the trans ground strap.
When is the last time it had a "full" tune up By full I mean plugs, points condenser, valve adjustment, air filter fuel filter etc. In me experiences a tune up could show a problem
