There is currently only 2 generations of cabriolet:

Mk1: 1979−1993
Mk2: 1993−2002 (Also called mk3/mk4 but technically Mk2)

I think you can figure out what yours is.

I thought I'd go to lower springs, 17 inch wheels. I like the way the car looks- minus the wheels and tires. Are there any worthwhile mods in the $2k range?

Default ok, i'm confused

Although I'm sure you're right, the problem that I'm encountering is finding pieces that will fit. When I look for mk2, I see the old body style cabriolet (prior to the name-shortening) that was essentially a convertible clipper-style rabbit. It seems that the front spoiler will not fit. After researching a bit more, it seems that the body style has a newer frame, older body, and mk4 golf bumpers. Would I be correct in assuming that a front spoiler from a golf would work? Forgive my novice nature. My only experience with VW's up to this point has been 60's full body and cut down beetles.

The MK IV style cabrio has golf style bumpers as does the MK III I believe
