Default buying a 1996 GTI vr6?

hey folks, looking at a buddy's 1996 GTI vr6... 100k miles, only modifications are intake, exhaust, and stage 3 weight reduction kit... the car is running mint.. i dont think its going to crap out on me any time soon if i were to buy it for 3800 cash.. my other friends are telin me its gonna be garbage and im going to be replacing parts every day. what you guys think?

ask your buddy if the timing chains have ever been done. if he has had them done thats a plus but if they werent they your lookin at some hefty prices for repairs. it is a good buy for the price just as long as the car has been taken car of since he had it.

stage 1: take out back seat

stage 2: remove Door panels

stage 3: pop out the ac

thats what the sheet of paper says when you buy the "kit" haha
