For older high mileage engines Sythetic Oil tends to leak easier in my experience. If you have ever switched from regular to sythethic -all of the sudden gaskets and seals will start to weep that were not before. I believe it is due to the blocking nature of regular versus the cleaners in the sythetic. If your engine is porus, sythetic will find its way out.
If you got a high mileage clunker put high mileage non synthetic in it unless you want to be a bleeder.
