This sprung up from a debate on another forum im on. Is there such thing as a FWD sports car.
What are yall's opinion. Please lets keep this civil
IMO no there is not. No matter how fast i make my jetta im still driving a 4 door grocery gitter.

i personally dont consider any 4dr a "sport car" but i think the GTI and the R32s are sports car. i dont think it should be a factor if its a FWD AWD or RWD. sport is 2dr and power to me.
I believe there is a such thing.
Eclipse, sciroco, corado, etc

I will be the first to admit it my car is nothing special but its a project to be
I believe a "sports car" means Power AND handling.
Those that say NO fwd car is a sports car are probably drag racers and do not care about handling at all. I am not saying that my car is a sports car per sae, but in my mind it carries forward a motorsports feeling into a vehicle that i can DD and bring my wife and kids along.
I have owned RWD and FWD cars and both have their advantages, but none more "sports car" than the other when i was "done" modifying them.
from the factory there are very few true sports cars, there are many possibilities though.
IMHO, a 9 second stang that can not corner is not a sports car to me...
i agree with Pssst...passed you
its all about power and handling
take a look at jettas
u have the 2.0L with 90hp compared to the 1.8T with 150hp or 180hp an around here many will tell u that the 1.8T is more of a sports car
an then if u get the GLI u get the suspension package as well
FWD and RWD i believe have no bearing on whether it is a sports car or not
bottom line if it has the power to beat other cars an can handle decently well, good enough to corner or straight line, depending on application, then i would consider it a sports car
I would say 4 wheel independent suspension is a good baseline for a sports car.

I would consider our jettas and golfs sport compacts and the the gli would be a sports sedan and then the gti and r32 would be sports cars
but we should be blessed that our insurance companies consider them compacts.

I've changed my mind, forget independent suspension.
The only qualification for sports car class is whether you have a Manly phallus of a Spoiler on the back trunk.
If you are sportin' rear trunk wood -then you all good.
