Default gas consumption concern

Just purchased a new passat and my gauge is reading about 20litres per 100 km....or 9 gallons per 100 miles. Dealer says the consumption is normal as a new vehicle but I don't buy it. Anyone experience the same thing. I believe it should be half that amount.

I have the v6.....According the fuel specs it seems I am double. Did anyone experience this poor consumption when they first got their vw's - specifically the passat.
