Default Preventing/minimization oxidization on headlamps... ?

Hi all,

2nd time VW owner here. 1st car was a 2002 Jetta (which a family member now drives around) and I spent some time last year trying to get rid of the yellow oxidization on the headlights with some products from AutoZone. It helped a little.

I circled back to VW last year and bought a 2011 Jetta again. I guess, I am dreading the same thing happening to my headlights in a few years. So, I am wondering, how long does it usually take for this to happen? Is there anything I can do NOW to prevent it from ever happening?

Thanks in advance-

I would say it depends on where you live. Closer to the coasts you'll get the natural salt in the air from the oceans. Places where pollution is high could also effect them. Salt on winter roads could also be a leading cause. Anyways, Lamin-X makes a protective film that you can apply to your lenses that may or may not help with the issue. I personally use the 3M Headlight Restoration kit probably 2-3 times a year just to clear up my headlights.
