Problems with 1999 1.4 Golf

Hi

I need help as my Golf has only 102k miles on the clock and has failed its MOT emissions test.

The engine is burning oil and my garage has recommended I scrap it as it will mean stripping the engine to find the fault.

Then depending on what the fault is it could mean thousands of pounds.

My thoughts are if this is a common problem maybe oyu guys (and girls!!) would know about it.

I paid a lot for a new cam belt and have invested a lot in the car over 3 years thinking i could get it too at least 125k miles.

also it is a cool car and i will miss it if i have to scrap it. weep weep!!

What trouble codes is it showing? Your garage should have documented them for you.

I mean this is so vague....A failed emissions test could be something as stupid as a vacuum hose, gas cap, or diverter valve. -None of those problems are more than 20 bucks.
