Finally just got rid of the honda, and purchased a 02 Jetta GLS. I have owned a couple manual transmission cars prior to this one, but it appears my RPM's in my jetta run much higher...
In 5th gear for example, at approx 60mph, my tach is around 3100 or so, depending on how warm the car is of course. Does this appear high to some of you avid vw drivers? -Barrett |

Congrats on the purchase.
My Rabbit, 70mph = 4000rpm. My girlfriends Rabbit, 70mph = 2600rpm. 3100 sounds about right. How warm the car is makes no differance in speed-vs-rpm. It's all in ratios.

haha
not F1 formula cars, miniature versions. I race all accross Canada. From Shubanacadie (however u spell that) in Nova Scotia to Mont Jolie in Quebec, to Waterloo in Ontario to Vancover. They are considered F1 cars, but miniatures. Highly competitive sport. We use rotax engines with red lines of 14-15grand and turn out top speeds of 140-155 miles per hour (depending on track of course). Its a big sport in Europe. Some call it a step down from the Ford 1600 (F16's) and a jump from Formula Kart racing (previous hobby). sorry for the confusion, I am far from a professional driver, i race merely as a hobby as STIHL in Germany has offered me sponsorship for advertisment. regards, Barrett. |

As long as your clutch isn't slipping the crank is connected right to the wheels through the transmission. The clutch does need to be at operating temperature to perform its best so it may slip a very, very small amount when it is cold and that would change the RPM vs MPH.
