Default Running in a new car

Hiya, just bought a new Golf 2.0 TDI 140PS! Just wondering if I need to run it in? The salesman said just keep it between 50 & 80 on the motorway, iv been varying between A roads & motorway, not going over 70 mph & not going over 3,000 rpm but often taking it up to 3,000 rpm before changing up, running at 1,500 to 2,000! Done 125 miles! Ta.
