Default Wheel and tire falls off !!!!!!

Ok , my dad was coming home thursday night from work in new jersey and his drivers side rear tire and wheel fell off. Now mind you he was doing somewhere between 65 and70mph !!I did not look at the car yet but according to him the drum is also gone (still attached I guess to the missing rim and tire). But the weird part about all of this is he said the cottor pin is still in place but the bearing is gone and the locking nut ?Oh by the way this is a 1998 jetta 2.0 with rear drum brakes .After I found out he was fine me and my brother had the biggest laugh over this !It was a great story at the local bar.My dad told me when a jersey state tropper pulled up he asked my dad if he knew where his tire was and my dad said no do you ??Great stuff huh ???
