When to change spark plugs?

Hello Everyone,

My name is Vivia and I am new to this site and also new to owning a VW vehicle. I am currently enjoying my new-to-me, 2011 Jetta SE. After fixing my wrench service light problem, thanks to your site info, I thought of another question: And please bear with me, as I just get in my car, turn on the ignition and go. Know what I mean? How will I know when I need to change the spark plugs? And are they observed while the oil is changed and/or with a performance of a multi-point inspection? Obviously, I have no clue. Help!

I swap mine every spring, but most people should never need them that frequently. I just like knowing they are good for the summer.
