Default Winter wheels on...loud noise from wheels

So i put on my winter wheels (which have bald Pilot sports on right now) and there is a really loud whirring noise from from all the tires it seems. Could this be because they are bald, or is it a bigger problem? I had a local garage put them on. thanks

I tried searching for anything about bald tires making noise but couldnt come up with anything...if it started making the noise immediatley after you put them on I would assume thats what its from..your car is kinda new to have the wheel bearings go.

Lug bolts too long and hitting stuff behind the rotors or calipers hitting the wheels?

when they get bald enough they will make noise, flat spotted, shifting belts, conecity, i see it all the time, ive bit the bullit a few times and threw new sets of tires on cars at work b/c i have rulled out everything else for a noise, and it fixed the problem. The tire can look perfect from the out side, and especially if they have sat over summer in the heat, they may have sagged, flat spotted, ect, what have you.

Yeah I've heard of tires getting load when the tread gets low, my tires have even gotten louder after 10-15k miles, and I've read a lot of people with my tires have the same problem, so I'm sure it can happen with other tires too.

yea these things are down to the 2/32 bars...i am replacing them ASAP with new ones. they dont make any extra noise when i turn, but when i go slower the noise can be heard like a ::tick tick tick:: (except not so much of a "tick" noise); then when im on the highway it blends into one noise, so speed def has something to do with it. im trying not to drive it before then just incase it is something that could damage the car

so another question relating to this, what tire size should i go with on these 17x7.5" wheels (they are S4 avus wheels). right now they are 225/45...i was thinkin about goin to 205/50 17 for winter tires, 215/45 (bc they are cheaper), or just stickin with the 225/45. not sure if i want to go to just winters either or buy some all seasons just in case i use these wheels for more than just winter

Go with snow tires, you have your stock wheels for the summer so why not get the best thing for the snow? Snows make all the difference in the world, I had all seasons on my GTI for 4 winters and it was just meh, I had snows 1 season and was amazed at the difference it made and mad at myself for now doing it earlier.
