well i want to do an engine swap to my 83 gti and im thinking of doing a vr6 or a 16v but im leaning more towards the vr6 and i want some info on this about the mods for both of them and what, with the car
VR6 is a heavy engine for such a light car, if will hurt your handling quite a bit. I'd say if you want to go for more power than a 16V do a 1.8T, or you could do a 16V turbo, or a G60...

I hear this alllllllll the time but surprisingly enough a VR6 is only ~80 lbs. heavier than the 1.8T from what I have read many places...yes any additional weight will affect the handling of the vehicle but if you want to build a superbly handing auto-x monster you probably wouldn't be considering either swap (VR6 or 1.8T).
how about the mods for that??
and how about specs for them?? (1/4, 0-60, hp, tq)
Not hard to build but hard to source parts for,. A G60 swap would be more easyer to find whole. You can also have the option of turbo upgrade down the line with no internal work needed. The 1.8T is the most power minimal price swap out of all of them. If you can find a good motor for a low price like 1500 then a chip you will be flying. My buddy has a rocco 1.8T and he out excelarates the hell out of us hands down
soo can i use any parts from the 1.8 engine thats in there now for the 1.8t engine?? and how about the wiring??
some parts from the 1.8 would probably bolt up to the 1.8T, but I wouldn't do that. Don't put 20 year old parts on a 5-10 year old engine. I think, from what I hear, the wiring is the hardest part because it is totally different.
Unless you live in California standalone is the way to go with a 1.8t swap. Within a couple months you'll be wanting to do things like big turbo, big intercooler... and the management will actually be able to keep up.
Knowing that there's a difference between fun and fast I would have to say that the standard 1.8 16v swap in my blue rabbit was one of the funnest cars I've ever driven. While not as fast as the 2L on throttle bodies or the turbo 8v it was really a fun car. It revved freely, hauled ass and outright could not be broken no matter how many 8000 rpm burnouts I put it through.
