Default 2.0 x-flow swap

My friend threw a rod in his 84 GTI today. He had it towed to Momentum, and they quotes him $2000 for a 2.0 swap, that's parts and labor, plus a 90 day warranty on the engine. If he brings them a 2.0 tranny there will be no charge to install it also. Does that sound like a fair price?

I wanted him to do the 1.8T, it's only $8000...

You can pick up a ABA 2.0 for dirt cheap. I've seen them for less than $500. I hear it's not too hard of a swap to do, the hard part is the wiring. And you can also pick a full 1.8T swap for $2500ish. But I guess with all that labor involved $2000 isn't bad, but I would just do it myself and save $$$.

You can get a 2.0 ABA for a few hundred, but with lots of miles. This one will be new or rebuilt. And he does not have the facilities to do the work himself. Plus a warranty, and if anything goes wrong, bring it right back to Momentum and they fix it.

I've gotten three complete swaps all with under 130K for $200 each. $2000 seems pretty fair for a complete swap. It took me about 5-6 days working by myself to do that swap.

Yea I am getting a X-Flow with everything besides ECU for 200. And I dropped one in my buddies MK2 and it was simple, and the only thing I didnt do is the wiring. But I always see a million X-Flows at junkyards and stuff and they sell them for like 200-500 bucks if that.

That's what I figure, the labor is killer. $65/hour isn't bad at all for a reputable shop like Momentum. As far the engine goes, he wants the car to be more reliable, so he doesn't want a engine with many miles on it, so if he watned less than say 70k the parts would all cost him a good $500+ anyway.
