A couple YEARS ago-- I bought an '87 Cabriolet..
It had a leaking fuel tank, which apparently was a common point of failure in these.. VW couldn't find the warranty so, they weren't going to fix it.. As time allowed.. I pulled the tank (meaning the rear axle, etc) I replaced all the brake hoses/shoes/etc.. The front brakes/struts, balljoints.. Went to put the tank back up.. Broke the little plastic "filter" VW part number 533 201511A.. The hose came out of the one end.. I then accidentally smashed it, when I was taking the car off the jackstands.. (ugh) Local dealer COULD order one-- ~$25.. But I honestly wasn't really excited about a plastic fuel filter under my car.. SOOO I did a lot of searching-- and found one at Napa (359 It has 3 5/16" ports on it.. SO it should be a "workable" replacement.. Napa was out.. I ended up having to go to Autozone, their part number was FF774.. One inlet, two outputs.. Just like the plastic doobobbie that VW used. Allright-- you know what I'm going to ask.. There are TWO lines from the fuel sender.. One attaches to the internal "lift' pump in the tank.. One is a return.. There are TWO lines to the engine compartment.. One is a hard plastic lline from the accumulator, that exits the second fuel pump.. One again, iis a return.. Can anyone tell me how I need to route these lines?? I'd like to get this little beast on the road.. Before I'm too old to drive anymore!! AJ RN |
