Default Cabby Restoration Process

Hey everyone!

After I finally got around to cleaning my cabby out, changing a few things under the hood, and washin and waxin', I decided to start this thread on the restoration process.

I plan on replacing/repairing everything that needs it so that she can look new again. So far my replace list includes...

1. Drivers side Seat or Seat Cover
2. Various Parking lights have burnt out.
3. 2 Alloy wheel center caps.
4. Drivers side body trim- Chrome/Plastic strips cracked off apparently.
5. Rearview mirror - weird residue will not come off. Very odd.
6. Instrument cluster - Odo, Speedo quit. and Tach is intermittent.
7. Find a Center console with armrest from a later model - might be hard to find, but I've seen them.
8. Drivers side window crank
9. All Speakers - rotted bad!
10. Engine overhaul. Unknown Mileage made me just go ahead and deside to replace all wear and tear parts before I start using as a main driver.
11. Repaint Bumpers, fender flares, and mirrors.
12. Headliner - no words can say how nasty it looks.
13. Carpets need a shampoo.

Top is in good condintion, and the only major imperfection is an easy fix. THe weatherstripping might be in need of replacement.

Some good things are...
I found the Orig. window sticker - $17,200.00
Neat VW Floor Mats - need cleaning real bad.
Still have the boot for the top when it's down, just needs to be cleaned.
Everything pretty much works, it just needs a little TLC to be good as new.
THE PAINT IS DARN NEAR PERFECT! - A Waxing made it shine like there was no tomorrow. Not one spot of rust. TEXAS car!

I'm really excited about this project. I found a place that's local who will mix the paint and put it in a spray can for me. All I have to do is mask off the metal of the car and sand down the plastic pieces.

Pictures of progress soon!

Any suggestions on where to find some of the stuff I'm seeking or if you have a part let me know.

Default Paint

The Cabriolet gets a fresh coat of paint on all the plastic pieces this weekend. The front, rear bumpers, and fender flares are being repainted to the OEM Sapphire Clearcoat Metellic. I'm truely amazed at how well the rest of the car has held up throught the years. It's quite phenoninal how well the paint shines in the light after a good hand waxing.

Pics coming soon; details on my entire process.

Ty

I just started the same project! 1986 Cabriolet with a strong motor, and body. Everything else needs TLC or replacement. My site is going up soon, I could use some input when it does.

You wouldn't have extra roof clasps do you? My passenger one broke.
