Default Carpet sources

Hello All,

I have searched the forum and net for some carpet for my 83. Any input on what type to get and from who? JBugs has a 10pc Loop carpet kit, but my stock stuff looks like a Cut pile.

Who sells the best quality carpet for our MK1's?

Also I need to replace the lift up spare tire cover, any ideas on what to make one out of? There was wood on that was in there, a 3/4" moldy plywood tank of a cover.

Thanks,

Ron

The carpet I'm not really too sure. The spare tire cover you could make out of 1/4" MDF. Wrap it in a generic "audio" carpet and you're good to go. You can get that type of carpet from car audio store.

That was my first thought, but never having to make my own tire cover I though I would ask first.

I have a 6 1/2" Bazooka sub to mount as well. I guess it would be ok mounted to the side of the mdf tire cover, supported by the underbody back there.

Maybe I could put hinges on it so it stays in place and a prop to hold it up, like a hood? Of course the prop would be on the same side as the sub to support the weight.

Anyone ever done this, any thoughts? I never want to have to Use the spare, but it would be nice if and when I did.

what red interior pieces do you want to get rid of?? I search every now and then on the the vortex for red seats but no one has the vinyl (I guess?!?) only cloth. I'll probably just have them redone.

I will be recovering my stock velour seats, the door panels, carpet and headliner are getting replaced, not worth saving, just get new ones. I will dye the vinyl dash and plastic bits black. Get some black seat belts or have them re-webbed.
