I'm swallowing my pride and posting a third consecutive question:
How do you determine the year of the engine if you don't have the VIN? From what I understand, the last 9 or so characters in the VIN tell you what year the engine was made but...it's just an engine. There are some numbers on the block and head but I can't seem to find how they relate to the engine year. Maybe I'm just stupid. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! |

I'll answer myself on this one. There are 9 characters stamped on the block, just below the head gasket and in front of cylinder 3. The first 2 letters are the "engine year code" and are as follows:
CK: 1977-1980 CR: 1981-1982 JK: 1983-1984 standard diesel CY: 1983-1984 turbo diesel
