Please help me!!! I've got a problem with my mk1 clipper. Im new to this forum and i don't know if this thread should be here, so if any mod would like to move it to another area of the forum then plz do.
... Anyway i've had a problem with my mk1 golf clipper for some time now but it dissapeared about 2months ago and has suddenly reappeared. Basically while driving my car after some time, at about 60/70mph the car start to shudder. If i try to accelerate more the car starts to slow down as in the case when you are out of petrol (but i do have petrol). The car will then slow down till it stalls while in movement, or if i place my foot on the clutch the revs will drop to 0 in a flash and will then stall. When i stop the car and it is stationary it won't start up for about 5minutes or so. If there is anything i've failed to clarify please tell me. Is there anyone out there who knows what it could be? Have you had a similar prob with your clipper? A |

Hi there mate I think I might have an idea what your problem is.
The mark1 golf is a great car but has one major fault in that the petrol filler neck is above the rear wheel with no protection. Mud and stuff get on top of it and get wet every time it rains and the car is used which results in the neck rusting. This rusting flakes off and goes in a bad place, the petrol tank! Then the rust pieces prevent the petrol lines from taking in fuel. I had the problem before with my old mk1 that sounds very similar to your problem, heres how to find out if this is the problem: first check the filler neck for any rusting or if it has been replaced recently, if its got holes in it theres even more chance that this is the problem. You can get to it behind the rear wheel. But the best way to check is to get a transparent fuel filter under the bonnett on the fuel inlet lines, should be able to get one pretty cheap. when the car cuts out like it is doing simply check under the bonnett to see if there is fuel in the filter, if there is not then that is your problem. To rectify it you need to get the fuel tank dropped out and cleaned and the petrol lines checked to ensure they are in good condition. The fact that the engine completely cuts out says that it is one of 3 things, no petrol, no spark or no air. Let me know how you get on and good luck! P.S. Is the car an injection model? |

Sorry about the delayed response - just rediscovered this site after months.
Yep i finally found the problem. It was indeed a rusty fuel filler neck which was causing the lines to get clogged up. Replaced the neck, tank and lines in the end, and it is now running sweet! A |
