WTF? Chrome knob? Usually when the fans stop turning themselves on and off it's a bad temp switch on the radiator. It's BEYOND me why people always find they need to replace it with a toggle switch, or hardwire it to the battery when the correct replacement switch is under $15.

If the knob on the dash turns the radiator fan on and off it should work. It's a half assed fix, and asking for trouble one day when you either forget to turn it on and overheat the car or forget to turn it off and kill the battery.

I'd go find a real mechanic.
