1.8 cheaper the better.in or around mo.

what newer engines will work in a 84 rabbit.5spd

any motor from 83-87 will work, you can use a 2.0 from an audi 80 which is a 3A block with the 1.8 head, or a ABA from a mk3 with a 1.8 head, but the ABA is a taller block so a longer down pipe is needed, 3A blocks are just as tall as a 1.8, so no down pipe mods are needed

are there any vw salvage yards in mo or eastern ks?need engine yesterday.
