got a 4K tranny in my 79 rabbit, theres no speedo cable, the hole is plugged,could it leak from the bolt hole beside te speedo hole? i cant find the leak, when i drive it, it leaks/sprays, anyone help me out what to chek for the leak?

Can you tell from the spray pattern where the fluid MIGHT be coming from? I cannot recall if the speedo cable fixing bolt goes through the case - but you might want to run a bolt into the hole just to be sure -
Could it be the differential seals ? Have you changed anything (in other words - on 10/10 I had a speedometer and my tranny didn't leak, on 10/12 I removed the speedo cable and shoved a cork into the hole , on 10/13 I noticed that my gearbox was leaking all over the place) - that sort of thing? If you can't figure it out from the spray pattern - clean it (car wash) first - that'll make it easier to find the leak - then run it - pop the hood and take a look. Sometimes you can use a dye in the oil that'll show up with a black light - makes it easier to find leaks - |
