Default new to mk1's

Im buying a 1982 jetta. It has been hit lightly in the right front wheel. The strut is slightly bent and one of the bolts where it mounts to the spindle tore through the strut housing. My question is are the struts the same in all mk1's? if not what yr/models are interchangable? Any info would be great.thanks

Yes, all. Also, measure the front control arm bolts to ensure that the front of the car is straight. They should be 27" on center.

thanks for the info. The car comes home tomorrow. will need a fender (small bend)
Aaron I will check the front end and make sure it's true. if you think of anything else i should check please let me know. I couldn't check out the car too precisely because it needed to get moved asap. (Land lord issues) I scored the car for a whopping $100 whoo hoo! he just put a set of gti snowflakes and new tires on the car a couple months ago. and except for the fender the body is near mint. no rust. the interior has no tears, great for vinyl from 82.. the car has 130,000 miles and purrs like a kitten. we'll try to post pics as soon as we get it home...
