Default no power

a quick hello to everyone as I have just swapped over from the air cooled side of the dub scene. I have now got a 1500 mk1 golf GX and am experiencing problems. The engine will idle all day long and will respond as expected to the throttle, but as soon as I try to drive it (under 1 min) the engine cuts out. I've changed the carb for another weber conv, petrol pump is new, leads, cap, coil. I've also done the voltmeter tests on the DIS and transistorised ignition switch both seem fine but I have my doubts, does anyone have any thoughts, especially regarding the reliability of the DIS and TIS and the problems they coarse when faulty.....

thanks from new and confused...

Definitely check the timing, but try the less expensive fuel filter and fuel pump screen first. Chances are they need to be done anyways and if it works, you've saved yourself some time and money.

I would check the fuel pump screen in the fuel tank.It sounds like it is being plugged by sediment.

Thanks for the relpies, i've since located the problem to sediment and rust particles in the tank, blocking the main and idle jets. The problem wasn't being helped by the customary hole in the upper filler pipe allowing a constant supply of muck to contaminate the fuel........

once again thanks...
