oil leaking betwen engine and trans. How bad is this?

Not much of a mechanical guy here, but my diesel rabbit just started leaking quite a bit of oil from in between where the trans (manual) attaches to the engine. It is not comming out from around the oil pan, but dripping down from above. Anyone have an idea of what I might be looking at? Is it very hard to drop the transmission on these cars?

Sounds to me like it's your main seal. The seal itself is around $50. give or take...it's the labor that's going to kill ya'. The engine is going to need to be dropped and the seal will need to be replaced. could be anywhere from $200-500 in labor.

I would recomend getting an estimate from your best VW garage. Best of luck!

If it is the main seal.While it is apart I would put in a new clutch too.
