Hey all,
I was riding through my town today and found this lil side car dealer with a pretty clean Mk1 Rabbit convertible sitting on his lot. The body has no signs of damage or rust and the paint looks pretty clean. The top looks brand spanking new! The only thing I found showing the car has been worked on is the lock cylinder to the rear hatch, it's like the seal was installed wrong because it's falling in a little bit (yeah I was looking that hard). I called him over the phone the next day to see what he was asking and he was quick to say $2400 and he was taking cash offers to sell it. I still have to see how many miles and what the engine condition is but what do you all think is a fair price? $2400 or should I take him down a little?

Good idea but also if you know where I could score one for $500 let me know. I want an older toy to play with also!

If there really is no damage and no rust and the paint is clean and the top functions well, I would say that $2000 is very fair. Yeah, you can pick up Rabbit Convertibles for $500, but at that price point you're looking at one with rust and/or bad paint and/or body damage and/or a top that needs replaced, plus probably some other mechanical and cosmetic odds and ends, so by the time you add up what it would take to get it looking nice and running well, it might have been more cost-effective to buy the nicer but more expensive one in the first place.

Also depends on who you buy it from. If it's a VW guy forget it he wants the world for it. But a normal joe would give it up in a sec for any price. Remember hondas hold their valueto all VW's don't except to the enthusiest

Well, what I was thinking about doing also was taking the car down to my boy at VW, Ronny in the shop, and have him give me his two cents along with the other mechanics. Depending on what they all say I'll decide from there what I'm doing. Overall the car looks slamming but long term I would want this car and do a transplant to a newer motor. Only time and VW will tell....hahahaha.

Yea I def. think $2400 is alittle high. But if its in such a good shape like your sayin. I would think $1800-$2000 would be some what reasonable if in a good shape. Good luck with it though.

1980? First production year Rabbit Convertable with the early small dash. I've only seen one... EVER.
Not worth the price though. Hardly worth $1000.
