Default Questions...confusion!

My Cabby has this weird humming type noise coming from the instrument panel, and it also doesn't make any noises if you leave the headlights/parking lights on. I already forgot oncee, and the fact that after you turn the car off the headlights turn off, but the parking lights don't doesn't help. I don't have an owners manual (doh!) so I wasn't sure if I have auto-off or something???

Any and all help please!

Ty.

If your lights are turned on, the parking lights will stay on after you turn off the ignition and remove the key - that's why they're called "parking" lights ....
A hum? Could be the warning buzzer for your "key in" or "lights on" is knackered - it should look like a relay (outwardly) - inside there'll be an electric buzzer - when it gets energized (ignition off / lights on) it makes the noise.

I really don't think the hum is is the warning for the lights, or the key in. Where might one find instructions to go about finding this electrical buzzer and possibly replacing it? Or is it something I should just leave and get used too?

There was a low oil pressure buzzer that was mounted to the back of the gauge panel - now I might be getting MK1 and MK2 confused on this one - but they'd go kinda nuts after a while and just buzz/hum at random - I "solved" this on an '86 by removing the cluster, taking out the two screws that held the buzzer to the back of the dash, removing the buzzer (had a small circut board attached to it) and tossing it into the trash, then re-installing the cluster.

I seem to recall the warning buzzer(s) as being under the dash, to the left of the steering column - if that helps at all - they'll look like relays - but (at least on one of mine) they have holes in them (to let the sound out) -

Best of luck

Steve
