Default Rebuilding diesel injectors for better performance

Hey guys,

I'm experiencing poor fuel economy, black exhaust, low power, and a "knocking" sound when cold. The Bentley bible attributes these symptoms to worn or faulty injectors. Oh, and there's also a huge cloud of blue smoke at cold start. I mean like cover-half-the-block sized cloud. This also seems to support the theory of worn injectors dripping fuel into the cylinders at rest. The pickup has 150k miles on it and I'm pretty sure no one's ever messed with the injectors.

I've been told that they get out of factory spec range by 100k. I've also been told it's about 200 bucks to have them rebuilt. Any of you ever tried to rebuild your own? Is this possible without a spray testor/other special tools?

Any cheap DIY tricks, humble opinions, graciously accepted.

Are you just looking to clean them, or all out new nozzles, and balancing?

No, not looking to just clean them. I want to "rebuild" them, refurbish them, balance them, whatever.

Probably gonna have to get my hands on an injector spray tester right?

Ideally, to properly balance them, yes.

or you could just buy new ones and send in ur cars, i think it's only like 120 to do that. and if your car smokes it alot it could be a crappy injector pump or poor compression.
