Default 1990 1.8 liter trans fit on a 1997 2.0 liter

I need to know weather or not a stock 1990 1.8lite GL trans will fit to a 1997 2.0 liter?

Sorry RiceHater... you replied the same thing 9 times and I deleted one too many.

Proper answer, yes.

Things to make it work:
The clutch disk from the 90, or a replacement like it
Swap the bracket and linkages from the 97 trans onto the 90, including the shift arm (if it's going in a MK3).

by rights the clutch disk out of the 97 should go right in the 90 trans...... they are the same transmissions...... on further review the clutch assembly is mounted to the motor and you shouldn't have to remove that at all..... just swat the tranny.....

You don't know what you're talking about. Don't give contradictory advice if you can't back it up.

The input shaft spline counts are different, you must run the MK2 8v disc... period.

the trans is the same as a 16valve trans in the jetta 3. The mainshaft is bigger diameter therefore if you are using a 1990 8 valve trans you must use the 8valve clutch disc(smaller dia.) If you are using a 16valve trans clutch disc is the same(larger dia.) lINKAGE MUST BE CHANGED. Paul

Now that it's been answered three times... pretty sure he's got the point.

The linkage is different from one trans to the other, but was under the impression he was putting a 2L into a 90 Jetta, so the linkage doesn't need to be changed in that case.
