Default '85 Diesel Jetta with White smoke

I had my '85's clutch repaired at the local shop (independant mechanix) and just before I pulled into the driveway I noticed a little bit of white smoke coming out of the corneres of the front of the hood. I parked her and opened the hood to find white smoke coming from the general aera of the axel on the right side of where the engine site over it, there is a plug in the top of the axel and I know that I have a gasket going bad, as there is a oil stain on the top of the eninge, does anyone know what the white smoke is? Is it oil, axel or tranny fluid???

Any help will be greatly appericated.

Well it's deinetly a oil smoke...hopefully it's just a gasket, and the block isn't cracked or anything like that.
