Default 89 golf SPUTTERS can't figure it out!

Hello I am new to this forum and I need my car repaired asap. I have an 89 golf 4 banger and this is my story...It has been sitting non runing for a year and up until recently I got her going again. It has 220.000 kms on it. It ran like crap at first...she would blow out black carbon and chug and sputter...the rad had a leak and the cooling system was like sludge...I so far have replaced the fuel filter, plugs, new rad, new hoses, flushed the entire system, new t-stat, new fan relay sensor. I put it back together yesterday and for 20 minutes of straight driving she ran great! idled fine and got her up to 130 km/h for a steady 10 minutes....when I got back home she idled fine, purred like a kitten. When I shut her off and re started her I drove it and she sputters...It goes good then sputters where I loose power and then it goes good for 1 minute and sputters again...after I let her sit over night , at first again she drives fine, but when I shut it off it sputters again...What could this be? I am very confused and impatient at this time.....Does anyone have any good advice?

have you messed with the air intake at all?... i know with mine i tried putting on a cone airfilter and it ran fine for a while then would sputter. it was because the MAF was properly secured and the extreme vibration the MAF was getting caused the car to sputter

How old is your fuel, and is there water in it and or your filters. Tip in a bit of metho, and see if thast fixes it?

If you ahvent I would replace your filters and drain the fuel asap.

I had a similar problem after I bought my '88 Golf GL, sometimes it would run fine and sometimes it would bog and I'd have to nurse it to get it anywhere... Was going through a set of spark plugs every month and coughing out black smoke. Turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator.
