Default braking/acceleration "clunk"

new here at vwforum, need help
my 86 vw golf 5 sp. suddenly started clunking when coming to a stop, same noise also heard on acceleration and seems to be coming from the center/passenger side front.
brake inspection shows nothings broken. all 3 motor mounts are ok, replaced both strut mount but did not fix the problem. passeger side driveshaft replaced 1000 miles ago, both rubber boots on axles are good so i'm guessing all the grease still where they should be. how do i tell if my axles/cv joints are going bad?
any input or suggestion is appreciated,
thanks

my first guess would be motor mount even though you said they are good, cv joints usually click when turning. with the car at idle, and make sure you nobody is in front of the car, with the car in gear, hold the brake and let the clutch out hard enough but enough that it wont stall or fully enguage, do the same with it in reverse, some time you can find the clunking that way, also you can see the engine flex under the hood, best to do with two people of course

Did you physically check the motor mounts because it sure sounds like the most likely reason from the given symptoms.
