just found this forum tonight...very cool I must say!
I was just wondering if anyone has ever modified a turbo diesel or knew anyone who has. I've heard of propane kits in trucks, ford powerstroke and dodge cummins, similar to nitrous. would an exhaust be LOUD? btw my car is a 92 jetta TD |

*raises hand*Me. I have a 1.6/9TD. If you've got the money, to get a lot of performance your best bet is the 1.9TDI conversion, but the 1.6s can be made to keep up with the 150hp 1.8t. Mine's at 148.2hp and 210.2 lb/ft at last dyno, I doubt it'll get any higher.
I've never seen someone with a propane kit, though I assume it can be done to the 1.6. Not sure how much hp it would add tho. An exhaust wouldn't be too loud. I've got a Supersprint on mine, it's a little louder than stock, but it kinda adds more noise in the "quiter spots" in the engine's running, so it's a little smoother. Obviously your results may vary due to type of exhaust. [ October 21, 2002: Message edited by: dirtjumpwill ] |

your wish is my command...
-1.9 conversion kit from here: http://www.overlandparts.com/dieselintro.htm -Stock upgraded to T3 turbo(15 psi when I want the boost, usually at 7)...the k04 died , Audi FMIC(dunno the model) -DIY CAI, see below -UPsolute chip -Supersprint exhaust -205 injectors, various fuel fiddling -Some no-name boost controller, I tried the apexi one but it didn't seem to like me The DIY CAI is pretty good, if you can find the right tubes. I took 3 pieces of PVC pipe from Osh, and some joints, then just played around with it. It's a K&N filter thats behind the left bumper vent( I have a Mattig RS bumper, like {_} [_______] {_} ) goind thru the pieces of pipe. I doubt it really helped too much, I just did it cause the stock thing was getting really nasty. And this is on an '86 Jetta Deluxe with 100% no options, so it feels pretty quick. Not fast per se, but definately fun. BTW, those #s were with the turbo at 16psi, for just drivingaround it's probably at like 100-110 or so hp [ October 21, 2002: Message edited by: dirtjumpwill ] |
