I have an 89 Golf GL,it has a whopping 1.3L engine but i want to swap it with something bigger either a 1.8T or a 2.0T,think a VR6 will fit? Here's the catch i want to buy the engine used and rebuild it.I don't want a turbo i just want straight muscle. Any ideas where i can get a performance kit or maybe a list of sites to look at for performance parts for decent prices.
The 2.0t and the 1.8t are deff the wrong motors if you do not want a turbo because after all they are turboed. The vr6 is deff a good choice. You can check out ecs tuning, bahn brenner and c2 motorsports.

I will be the first to admit it my car is nothing special but its a project to be
if you want something reliable, with ok power. the aba swap would be the most basic
i would also look into getting a 1.8l 8v from another mk2...or a 2.0 16v from a mk2. either of these maintain a good factory ride and will add mad power if you do a good build...cheep too compared to most vw's
the vr6 swap is a lot of work, and the added weight kills your braking and handling unless you dump a lot in mod's. and its effing expensive
trust me...im in the middle of a vr swap in a mk2...
also some do the g60 swaps from corrado's. supercharger 8v...but they are problamatic
