Yeah i'm lazy and copied from my vortex post...



So this is my project dub that I guess takes the back seat to my Passat since that is technically my daily driver and what I must maintain first and foremost... aka the car I make payments on. Just picked this up for 800 bucks and am starting to dig into it a little bit.

The low down..

'92 8 valve with the fake recaro interior and that's about all to say. From the get go the shifting is terrible and the idle is a whole buncha rough until the car gets to operating temperature.

- That leads me to project number 1... Cleaned out the ISV with some throttle body cleaner and while I was there cleaned the throttle body too. I also ordered a new coolant temp. sensor which hasn't yet arrived so we'll wait to see if the problem will be remedied 100% with that, with just cleaning the ISV I'll say it's 85% solved. A new shifter linkage and bushing kit is also on the way to fix the problematic shifting.

The windshield needs replaced soon as well as the entire suspension setup so that I can inspect the car and get it on the road legally. The shocks and shock mounts are TOTALLY shot and it feels like the wheels are going to fall off over pretty much any bump. I'm definatly in the market for suspension so anyone who has a hookup or is selling stuff LET ME KNOW! I'll be replacing all the factory bushings as well once I get to that point as I want this to be my autocross car and I feel that'd be a necessity on a 15 year old car.

I really don't have the disposable income to make this anything other than a reliable fun car but hopefully this thread will generate some helpful information for someone down the road as I've found many project threads helpful in some regard. I will do some well illustrated how-to's to go along with it!

So, with that I begin... and leave my fellow dubbers with my project with which I'm starting and what I hope to create thanks to a little photoshop work (a blueprint if you will)....






by all means if anyone local has anything that they want to contribute to this car (i.e. help) or is trying to sell worthy items get in touch. I know there's a big PA crowd on here and since I'm living in State College now alot of you are somewhat local.

looks like a fun project. keep us updated as you go. and by the way the shifter bushing change is probably on eof the best things you can do to these things. it's like a totally different car with a nice no slop shifter. Oh and good luck

yeah i'm stoked to get it put on... i think i had it mailed to my parents house since my tools are there so it SHOULD be on very soon.


do you play for the lunatics? I only ask because I'm almost positive we scrimmaged them like 2 years ago while I was playing for IUP's club team... it may have been the Marple Gladiators though... not sure.

yeah i play for the Lunatics. But this year will be my 3rd year and I know we didn't scgimmage you since I've been there. Maybe the year before or like you said it was the gladiators. you still play anywhere?

What are you looking for like cheap upgrades.Well for starters,like you said u need new suspension but u are on a budget,go get some kybgr2 struts all around are like 135$ for them all and get your self a set of 16v springs (i have some ill give ya for free)they are a A++++++ upgrade.

You are looking for performance,do a tune up to her like plugs,wires,cap&rotor,fuel filter,oil change,k&n drop in filter.

You said u wanna make it a autocrosser,most local junk yard always have a gti there or a gli jetta or some sort with rear disc setup i highly suggest that.(not sure if yours does already have it or not)

You can get your self a nice cam and camgear setup up used for about a $100 or get them brang new for like $200.Check up top of the webpage and click on http://www.euronationmotorsport.com/

also i didnt notice u were in PA in also in pa i might have a few things for you cheap let me take a look in the shop and see what i have
