Noisey Waterpump

After listening to my car whine like there is an angry cat under the hood for a few months I finaly did some simple trouble shooting (belt check, fluids etc) and discovered its coming from the water pump. Is this common? Any fixes or am I looking for a replacement? The odd thing is on a cool day the pump is silent.

On a side related note what type of fluid should go into my tranny? 3 litres of what?

85 Jetta 1.8L gas 5 speed.

Is the pump leaking as well? Or is it just making noise?

And for your tranny you could use OEM dealership fluid, syncromesh or redline.
