power help?!

ok so i have a 92 golf an one day i shut off my car, left for an hour came back to drive it home and it wouldnt start, it had no power. so i jumped it with a quickstart battery, and drove it to canadian tire, bought a bettery and put it in. it started fine drove for the day then i noticed my lights starting to dim, and it died. jumped it again drove it home and figured it must be the altenator.

so i went to a vw specialist/mechanic, bought a rebuilt alty, and put it in myself. my battery was dead so i charged it just enuff to start it, figuring my altenator will charge it and ill be fine. i drove it for lest than 15 minutes and it dies yet again (made it a block from my place).

was i supposed to charge the battery for long after i replaced the alty?

could it have something to do with a voltage regulator?

any help would be greatly appreciated im completely clueless when it comes to electricity

when you install a new alternator the battery is supposed to be fully charged, or at least that's what i've always been told.
