Default Wtf???

should the alternator be grounded? if so, from what part of the alty to what part of the car?

if i ground it on one of the 4 bolts than run through the alty, i get better voltage, withou it it gets around 12v, if i ground it puts about 13v. (ground to the body) but when i turn on the car, it burns the cable. that happend this morning, after the car had been sitting all night, but last night that i did this, it never burnt the cable, so it gets me thinking, could it be the starter that has gone bad? but i want to know from what part of the alty does the cable come out from, and to where do i strap it?

I grounded mine, on the back side of the alt it has like a 6mm stud, I ran an 8g wire from there to alt mounting bracket have to take off the alt because the bolt I used was directly behind the alt, but you can barely see the wire, I also ran 2g from my bat to the starter, and from the starter to the alt, and also ran a small 8g, or you can use a ground strap, from the coil bracket to the motor, also ran a 1g ground from the bat to the trans mounting bolt, if you cut them to appropriate length it looks good
